About the College

In the year 1997 when Dr. S. C. Vats, Founder and Chairman, Vivekananda Institute of Professional Studies – Technical Campus (VIPS-TC), New Delhi met Swami Jitamananda ji, an eminent educationist, management expert, and active social worker and editor of Prabudh Bharat (Awakened India) who trusted Sir and requested him to venture into the quest for excellence in education and thus emerged as an outstanding and leading institute with VIPS. Since its inauguration, we at VIPS are able to flourish 15000+ Alumni Network and have more than 300+ Companies on Board including Deloitte, Wipro, TCS, Infosys, Tech Mahindra, etc. The academic experience of more than 25 years has made us a pioneer in the education field.

To nurture future-ready engineers equipped with the mindset and skillset to lead and innovate in Industry 4.0. Vivekananda Institute of Professional Studies - Technical Campus (VIPSTC) introduced the School of Engineering & Technology (VSE&T) with a state-of-the-art campus. It offers a student centred approach through a blended learning curriculum designed as an amalgamation of tradition and technology as we carry the guiding principles of Swami Vivekananda and his philosophy envisioning an institute that would embody the ideals of "Man Making, Character Building, Nation Building." With this epigram, we are able to develop individuals who are not only creators of their own destiny but also help in shaping a better future for the world.

The national conference, VAANI – Building LLMs for India’s Linguistic Landscape: Issues & Challenges, is an important academic initiative to examine the evolving role of Large Language Models in a multilingual society like India. As artificial intelligence increasingly influences communication, governance, and knowledge systems, it becomes essential to ensure that linguistic diversity, cultural context, and ethical considerations are meaningfully reflected in technological development.

This conference acts as a bridge between research and real-world applications, encouraging collaborative efforts that contribute to national development and digital empowerment. The focus on ethical, cultural, and policy perspectives will further strengthen the relevance of this academic endeavour in today’s rapidly evolving AI landscape.

I extend my heartfelt best wishes to the organisers, speakers, and participants for the grand success of this conference. May VAANI inspire meaningful dialogue, innovative research, and lasting collaborations that advance the future of language technologies in India.

Conference

The emergence of Large Language Models (LLMs) has significantly transformed the way we interact with technology, making it more intuitive, conversational, and inclusive. However, in a linguistically rich country like India—with 122 officially recognized languages and over 30 languages spoken. The development of LLMs presents a complex set of issues and challenges. These range from the lack of high-quality language datasets and computational resources for low-resource languages, to the need for culturally and contextually relevant AI models that respect the nuances of diverse Indian languages. This two-day conference, titled "Building LLMs for India's Linguistic Landscape: Issues & Challenges", brings together researchers, academicians, policymakers, and industry professionals to deliberate on the current advancements and future directions in this domain. Key topics include language data collection, model training strategies, ethical concerns, and applications of LLMs in education, governance, and digital access. The aim is to foster dialogue and collaboration to ensure that India's linguistic diversity is not just preserved, but actively integrated into the rapidly evolving AI ecosystem. By addressing these critical issues, the conference seeks to promote equitable access to AI technologies and highlight the importance of developing inclusive models that serve the needs of all language communities across the nation.

Aim & Objective

  • To discuss ethical, cultural, and policy considerations in the deployment of LLMs across diverse linguistic communities of India.
  • To promote the Indian languages for social sentiment analysis using LLMs.
  • To explore the technical, linguistic, and environmental challenges in building LLMs for Indian languages.
  • To assess the current state of language resources and identify gaps in data availability and quality.
  • To encourage collaboration and roadmap creation for inclusive, scalable, and impactful language technologies in India.
