The emergence of Large Language Models (LLMs) has significantly transformed the way we interact with technology, making it more intuitive, conversational, and inclusive. However, in a linguistically rich country like India—with 122 officially recognized languages and over 30 languages spoken. The development of LLMs presents a complex set of issues and challenges. These range from the lack of high-quality language datasets and computational resources for low-resource languages, to the need for culturally and contextually relevant AI models that respect the nuances of diverse Indian languages. This two-day conference, titled "Building LLMs for India's Linguistic Landscape: Issues & Challenges", brings together researchers, academicians, policymakers, and industry professionals to deliberate on the current advancements and future directions in this domain. Key topics include language data collection, model training strategies, ethical concerns, and applications of LLMs in education, governance, and digital access. The aim is to foster dialogue and collaboration to ensure that India's linguistic diversity is not just preserved, but actively integrated into the rapidly evolving AI ecosystem.
